Slovakia – the official name is the Slovak Republic – 49,035 km2 of area for lots of experiences. Its population is 5 435 343 inhabitants (in 2011) of various nationalities.
Slovakia is situated in the heart of Europe and borders with five neighbouring countries: Austria and the Czech Republic in the West, Hungary in the South, Ukraine in the East and Poland in the North.
1st May 2004 - Slovak Republic is a member of the European Union,
21st December 2007 - a member of Schengen area,
1st January 2009 - part of the European Monetary Union. Its currency is euro (€).
Slovakia is a member of NATO, OSN, UNESCO, OECD, OBSE, CERN, WHO and INTERPOL. Slovakia is a country with predominantly the Roman Catholic religion, up to 69 % of the population.
